This week “In the Frame Shop”, Russell presents a video (below) on framing an antique doily. He details our approach to handling textiles for framing. Whether you are preserving an antique doily or framing a new decorative piece, the same techniques and considerations apply:
“Must Do’s” for framing delicate antique doily and other lace textiles:
- This is a preservation project, so only use acid-free backing and materials.
- Do not use adhesives that can discolor the fabric Instead, hand-sew the lace onto the background
- Space the glass so that it does not touch the fabric
- Use UV filtering glass to protect the piece from fading
